Type B-986
Superior Solenoid Key Release Unit
Printable Technical Specifications

The Superior Solenoid Key Release Unit type B-986 is
available in voltages ranging from 24 to 250 volts either A.C. or D.C. It can
be supplied for panel mounting unhoused, or for outdoor use with aluminum
housing with gasket and dust covers. This unit consists of a lock, a solenoid
coil and a switch (3-pole double throw) arranged so the key is released by
energizing the solenoid from an external power source.
Moving the key operates the auxiliary switch. A toggle
switch rated at 15A is utilized for connecting external components. Push
buttons and indicating lights can be incorporated if needed.
Application:
Solenoid release units are normally used in conjunction with other interlock
components. Two of these solenoid release units, electrically connected,
could release either key through the auxiliary switches, thereby resulting in
positive control of either key.

Operation:
In the initial condition the key is trapped in the Solenoid Key Release Unit
by the spring loaded solenoid plunger. When a signal is sent to the unit the
indicating lamp illuminates, this indicates to the operator that a signal is
present. Depressing the push button energizes the solenoid allowing the key
to be rotated to the releasable position. Rotating the key to the releasable
position changes the state of an internal double pole double throw toggle
switch available to the customer on the terminal strip. The key may now be
removed and used to in the interlock sequence. Returning and rotating the key
back to the trapped position again changes state of the switch to its original
position and re-traps key.
